Wheel of Architecture
The Sun Temple of Konark in Orissa is famous for its distinctive architecture. Built in the 13th century by the Eastern Ganga dynasty, the Sun Temple was conceived as a gigantic chariot of the Sun God with twelve pairs of exquisitely ornamented wheels pulled by seven horses. The spokes of the wheels also serve as sundials and the shadows cast by these can give the precise time of the day. Each wheel has a diameter of 9 feet 9 inches with 8 spokes.
