The Amruteshwara temple temple was built in 1196 C.E. by Amruteshwara Dandanayaka “commander” under Hoysala King Veera Ballala II. The temple shows fine architecture and sculpture. The shrine is square in shape has the original superstructure (shikhara) which is adorned with sculptures of Kirtimukhas (demon faces), miniature decorative towers (aedicule). The image shows the decorative swirls in bas-relief on mantapa outer wall. The decorations of the many miniature roofs of the tower are very fine and very well preserved. The walls are decorated with towers on pilasters and vertical scrolls.
