Light up a child’s future

Irregular power supply in rural areas can directly impact the performance of the students preparing for the final year school examinations. To give them a helping hand, Rotary Club Bangalore West distributes battery powered LED reading lamps to Class 10 students through schools in these rural areas. The ‘green’ equipment is relatively low in cost, lasts multiple years with little maintenance and serves students across multiple years.

The students take the lamps home for studying at night. They bring the lamps to the school twice or thrice a week to get them charged at the school using solar-powered charging stations. After the exams are over, the students return the lamps to the school for re-distribution to the next batch of studnets in the next year.

The program started in 2010, has been a great success. Rotary Club Bangalore West distributed as many as 1500 lamps over the last 3 years benefiting as many students in 30 schools. The feedback from the schools and from the students is very encouraging.

Make a difference

This year, Rotary Club Bangalore West wants to extend the program to cover 5000 students.

We solicit, on behalf of Rotary Club Bangalore West, individual sponsorship for a few lamps. Sponsor a lamp for a child for just Rs.1200! As a special drive, you can take home a framed print from Vismaya Collection on display at the Varshini Exhibition, if you sponsor Rs. 3500 or more. This offer is available only at the Varshini Exhibition at Chitrakala Parishad from June 21-23, 2013. Please note that the prints will be delivered only after the exhibition is over.

We would also be delighted if you could arrange a Corporate Sponsorship to adopt one or more schools. You can also be a volunteer for the program and work with Rotary Club Bangalore West to identify and support distribution and monitoring.
